What can we do about the way opera is perceived today? We ask ourselves this question everyday. Sure, opera is not for everyone, just like artichokes aren’t for the masses – each are an acquired taste. However, opera has been tagged with many stereotypes (some of them true) that continue to make it difficult to build interest within the art form and survive during rough times. OperaPulse believes that we can learn two lessons from this recent recession:
1. Opera will never die.
2. We must create stronger relationships within our communities to help opera efficiently push past future obstacles.
In our “The Future of Opera” series we are asking professionals, “If you had your way, where would you see opera in ten years?” We challenge you to answer the same question. Send us your stories or leave your comments below.
