|Translation:||Like a rock|
|Opera:||Cosi van tutte|
OperaPulse’s Aria of the Week – Mozart was certainly not easy on the soprano when he wrote Come scoglio (Like a rock), from Così fan tutte. This aria demands a singer who can handle the extreme parts of the soprano range with great ease (or make it seem that way). Notice how the artists below make this aria seem like a walk in the park.
Come scoglio is sung by the fiercely devoted Fiordiligi. Well, at this point in the opera she’s devoted. By this time in the story, Fiordiligi has had enough of the two Albanians, who are really Ferrando and Guglielmo in disguise, and, at the same time, proclaims her love for Guglielmo and henceforth asks the Albanians to abandon their hopes of winning them over.
