BOSTON, MA – Boston Opera Collaborative (BOC) presents Tonight, Tonight: An evening of light opera, musical theater, and operetta gems, April 30 & May 1, 8:00 pm. Performances will be held at Church on the Hill, 140 Bowdoin St, Beacon Hill, MA. Emilia Allen directs. Lidiya Yankovskaya conducts. Tonight, Tonight will display BOC’s musical flexibility in staged scenes from light opera, operetta, and musical theater. The performance will be a casual and intimate affair, with refreshments offered to our audience. Music selections include works by Strauss, Lehar, Weill, Sondheim, Bernstein, and Offenbach.
Emilia Allen is a proud native of Minneapolis, MN. After growing up nurtured by the thriving performing arts culture there, Emilia moved to New York to attend Bard College, where she majored in vocal performance. Since settling in Boston, Emilia has worked with the Watertown Children’s Theatre, Opera Hub, Musica Nuova and Boston Opera Collaborative, and looks forward to continuing to explore Boston’s exciting music and theatre scene.
In addition to her work with Boston Opera Collaborative, Lidiya Yankovskaya serves as Associate Conductor of Juventas New Music Ensemble, pianist for Opera Boston’s outreach operas, and Assistant Conductor of Zamir Chorale of Boston. Until 2008, Yankovskaya was Music Director of the Vassar College Mahagonny Ensemble, a contemporary music group of about 55 instrumentalists and 24 singers. Other recent appearances include music directing Goldfadn’s Shulamis at Harvard University, conducting a performance of Mozart’s Zauberflöte at Brandeis University and music directing the premiere of the opera Victory Over the Sun by Russian avant-garde composer Georgy Firtich. Yankovskaya received her B.A. in Music and Philosophy, Phi Beta Kappa from Vassar College and is currently pursuing a degree in Conducting on a Dean’s Scholarship at Boston University. Next season, Yankovskaya will be serving as the Music Director of Juventas New Music Ensemble and conducting a main-stage production with BOC.
Boston Opera Collaborative is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to providing opportunities for emerging artists — including singers, directors, conductors, and theater technicians — to bridge the gap between higher education and a career in the arts.
Members of Boston Opera Collaborative share in the management of the organization, developing their own skills as artists and administrators through productions and professional development.
