OperaPulse’s Aria of the Week – Thanks to reality show sensation Paul Potts, Nessun dorma, from Puccini’s Turandot, has been heard by millions all across the world. However, very few have listened to the superior versions sung by Franco Corelli, Jussi Björling, or many other greats. Arias can be performed by all types of singers, but nothing compares to the performance of opera singers like those found below.
Nessun dorma (None shall sleep) is sung by Calaf who has fallen in love with the cold Princess Turandot. The aria is Calaf’s decree that he will win the deal that he made with Turandot – if Turandot cannot guess Calaf’s name by dawn she will have to marry Calaf.
