OperaPulse’s Aria of the Week – Let’s waltz away to “Adele’s Laughing Song.” Most of the time, Strauss’ classic operetta from Vienna, Die Fledermaus, is performed during the holiday season because of its wildly festive music and party time flare. The aria, known as Mein Herr Marquis (in german), has a lively chorus that will certainly bring a smile to your face. It’s a great show piece for the soprano, as it demonstrates great coloratura passages and a playful character.
In a show full of mistaken identity, Eisenstein suspects that an “actress” at the ball is his wife’s chamber maid. The actress is, in fact, his wife’s chamber maid, Adele, but she laughs off the accusation with the aria Mein Herr Marquis.
